Important Election Dates 2025

2025 of how elections will run in the Summer Village: 

Nomination Day

Saturday, July 19, 2025 12:00 - 1:00 pm

Advance Poll

Saturday, August 9, 2025

9:00 - 1:00 pm

Election Day

Saturday, August 16, 2025

10:00 - 7:00 pm


Please note that all the Advance Vote/Poll and Elections will be held at the Sandy Beach Hall/Myrna Noyes Community Hall, 63 Lakeshore Drive, Highway 642, Sandy Beach.

  • Nomination Day is at the office 1208A Highway 642.
  • Nominations can be received as of January 2 2025.
  • No online or email Voting
  • Voting is in person only.
  • No harassment will be tolerated.

Voter Eligibility:

Section 47 of the provinces Local Authorities Election Act determines who is eligible to vote? A person is eligible to vote in a municipal election if the person: Is at least 18 years of age; Is a Canadian Citizen;  Has resided in Alberta for the 6 consecutive months preceding election day; The person’s place of residence is located in the area on Election Day.

In the case of a summer village, a person is eligible to vote in a municipal election if the person: The person is eligible to vote under section 47; Is at least 18 years of age; Is a Canadian Citizen; Has resided in Alberta for the 6 consecutive months preceding election day; Is named on a certificate of title as the person who owns property within the summer village; or Is the spouse or adult interdependent partner of a person who owns property with the summer village.

Identification Required:

On Advance Poll day or Election day you must bring one piece of identification issued by a Canadian Government (federal, provincial or local), or an agency of that government, that contains a photo of the elector and his/her name and current address. If you do not have this please contact the Village office for the Chief Electoral Officer approved identification List.

How to Vote

The Voting stations will be located at:

63 Lakeshore Drive

Four voters at a time will be allowed to enter and cast a vote so please plan ahead. No exceptions. Make sure you have photo ID and proof of residence. No exceptions.

IDENTIFICATION TO VOTE

Every elector who attends the voting station will be permitted to vote if they make a statement that they are eligible to vote in the presence of an officer in the prescribed form.  They must produce one of the following identification for inspection:

  • photo identification (ID) issued by the government (federal, provincial or local, or an agency of that government) stating your name and current address (an example is a driver’s license or provincial ID card);
  • The list of acceptable pieces of ID can be found on the Government of Alberta website Voter Identification Requirements.

BY-ELECTION (starting with Fall 2022 resignation)

With the resignation of the Deputy Mayor Larysa Luciw on October 12-2022 at 11.45am the by-election procedures will now be implemented and the website updated as the municipality navigate this issue. Updates will be posted here.

Sandy Beach graciously thank Larysa for her contributions to the Village over the last 15 months and wish her all the best with her future endevours.

NOMINATION DAY

Nomination Day will be on the 7th of January 2023 from 10am to 12noon at 1208A Highway 642 Sandy Beach, AB - Public Works and Administration Building (Shop).

Residents:

VOTING

Election Day will be, the 4th day of February 2023, from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm.

The Local Authorities Election Act (LAEA) governs the nomination, voting, and election process.  To view a copy of the Act, click here.  

Information for Voters 

You may vote in the By-Election if you are:

  •  at least 18 years old,
  •  a Canadian citizen, and
  •  reside in Alberta and your place of residence is located in the local jurisdiction on   election day.
